What is Ostro?

Ostro is a sailing race timing and results app for iPhone and Android, made by Studio Seol. The race officer records each finish with one tap as a boat crosses the line, and Ostro produces handicap-corrected results the moment the race ends.

Who is it for?

Race officers, sailing clubs, class associations and event organisers running handicap or one-design racing, from a club evening series to an open meeting or regatta. It is built for keelboat and dinghy fleets alike.

What does it do?

  • Records finish times with one tap, timed the instant the button is touched. A recorded time can never be edited; only which boat it belongs to can be changed.
  • Scores races under YTC, IRC, Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) and one-design, and can score the same race under several schemes from one set of finishes.
  • Runs the pre-start countdown, with the common start sequences or your own.
  • Works on the water with no mobile signal. Everything is recorded on the phone first.
  • Publishes ranked, corrected results to a public web page anyone can open, with no app or login needed to read them.
  • Exports results as text or CSV, and keeps a boat library with each boat’s ratings.

How is it different from other software options?

Many clubs produce results with desktop software on a laptop, usually after racing, or with browser-based tools that need an internet connection to record finishes. Ostro is a native phone app designed to capture finishes on the water without signal, then publish results as soon as there is a connection, so sailors can see them before they are back ashore.

How much does it cost?

Timing, scoring and publishing results are free.

Is it available yet?

Ostro is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. Following a club in the app and being notified when its results are published is planned to follow shortly after launch.
